The Visionary Style
We all know consulting firms that seem to do whatever it takes to complicate the situation, threading the logic and not documenting the process until they are the only ones who know how something works. That is not the Visionary style. Our goal is to come in, listen to you, propose a solution, build it, fully document it, and train your users and staff so that they can support it.
We realize that many companies have a limited IT budget today, and need to use in-house resources whenever possible. Visionary Software can work with you at any level. We can do the project soup-to-nuts, or can work with you to determine what in-house skills you have that may be applied toward the project. If you want to do the data conversion, Gantt chart, or training yourself, no problem. We’ll work with you and let you know CRM best practices for implementation. One client had been doing a series of technical reviews of their CRM project. Part of the task was a code review of 100+ Javascript programs developed by Visionary Software. During that review, Dave was able to easily illustrate each of the business rules that were in place because each business rule is coded so that it “stands alone” – meaning that all of the conditions are in one code block--and is well documented.

Typically, Visionary will create a spreadsheet that contains all business rules the client wants to be implemented. We give each rule a unique Business Rule Number, and place that into the code, so it’s easy for future developers to find the code if it ever needs to be modified.

In 2003, Visionary began to convert existing Onyx customers over to Microsoft’s new CRM solution. One client wanted to convert to MS Dynamics CRM, yet wanted to preserve the Onyx audit trail functionality, which captured each change to a record. Intrigued by the possibilities, Dave started to build an auditing solution.
Dave wanted to eliminate the limitations of the Onyx audit solution, and be able to audit every change, and show all of the fields that had changed. CRM 3.0 introduced the concept of “custom entities”, which means customers could now create their own tables, as well as custom fields within known entities. Which brings about the $64,000 question: how do you audit changes to something you don’t know is there?
After months of poring through behind-the-scenes system tables and evaluating all kinds of transactions to see what CRM was really doing, Dave emerged with a plan. Fortunately for him, he had a partner who knew the ins and outs of the CRM API. Together, they worked for months perfecting an auditing solution: VAST, which stood for Visionary Audit System Tools.
After achieving product certification and selling VAST to dozens of clients with hundreds of end users, one of the leading ISV’s purchased Visionary’s VAST technology, and is selling it as c360 Audit.
